New jewelry collection - Spring 2012

This Last week, I worked mainly in the new collection of jewelry.
Some pieces are already in the shop.

The inspiration for the structure came from the coral and marine life.

The colors are spring ... blue, turquoise, orange, red ...

I am a privileged to have wonderful people in my life

2011 for me was marked above all for, really, really work, few hours of sleep, little rest.You know it did not go so well at the end of the year, extreme tiredness took me two times to the urgencies of the the hospital, the first due to fatigue and stress, and the second time a week later ... due to fatigue and stress. because I'm stubborn. The doctor told me to rest ... and I slowed down the rhythm a bit, of course next week there I was again.

I was indeed forced to rest. Sometimes rest is just not stress about that long list of daily tasks, completely impossible to achieve, but I'm stubborn, I always believe it is perfectly possible.

After a week that I forgot to program, to run, to fulfill schedules, hearing about crisis. Where I started to breathe, look at my work as I truly feel, with an enormous pleasure in creating, when I started to feel again the real importance of small things. I was me again:)

In the past year wonderful things happened, and we must stop to be able to look for these events and give them the value they deserve and take real advantage of them. Only in this way things make sense.Of course there are difficult moments, and times when we do not have the slightest idea what to do to overcome obstacles, and there are times when the obstacles are hugeOne thing I learned this year, it is urgent to breathe deeply, it is imperative never override the quantity above quality, and this applies in terms of business and leisure.I am a privileged for doing what I loveAnd above all I can not stop talking about something really important here. The community, sharing and support . The wonderful people who were part of my year. The giveaway that could change everything at Oh my! Handmade goodness

I am very excited to share with you that I am participating in the fabulous giveaway of Ho my! handmade goodness.
And so I share with you all some of my business and how it has been growing.

For many years I worked in a museum school (Foundation Ricardo Espirito Santo) of Decorative Arts, where my main job was to restore the old tiles.

For many years I wanted to start a business of mine, where creativity was in the foreground.
When my son was born, was the turning point in my life.

I do not want to lose his growth and be a working 8 hours a day away from home, would cause me to lose the most important moments of his growth.

I am not a person to be quiet, I like to work, I need to work, and since I can remember, I love creating.
So I threw myself to my dream.

I was so afraid, I leave from my job and was jumping into the unknown, with a baby son. But at the same time, I was fighting for what I believed, and the life I wanted for us.

In difficult times (yes, there's always difficult moments) I always remember this is for our lives, for our happiness and with commitment and dedication everything is possible.

I started from nothing, had a table, some brushes, and a clay oven...

I started my first collection, opened the shop on Etsy and started searching for specific stores, where I believed that my work fit to put my pieces.

In 2010 I got three stores in Lisbon, IZZO Chiado and Alma Lusa (a name with two stores, one being located at Lisbon airport and has a good influx of customers) and sales on Etsy were starting very slowly.
In 2011 the range of stores increase for two more, one is in, the National Tile Museum in Lisbon, and the other (original), also in Lisbon.

The online sales also increased. This year I sold online, twice what I sold last year.
At this time, despite good sales, income has only been for the studio, materials, equipment,etc..
all this precursor has been accompanied with full dedication, hard work and commitment.

If I have been afraid? yes, a lot!

If I'm happy? yes very, very happy! I love what I do!
Manage a business alone, and be simultaneously mother and wife, is not easy.
Everything that comes out of the studio is done by me since the creation and design of the piece until its packaging.

My goals for the next year are several:)

I'm try to get to put my work on more two new stores, on the other hand, want to open the door of the studio one day a week to make workshops with groups of adults and another with schools, to provide contact with the clay, glass, and allow freedom of expression and creativity to all.

And above all invest in sales / release online.
Portugal is going through a crisis right now quite large and we have a VAT of 23%, which makes it verydifficult the commercialization and purchasing power within the country.

This next year I have to invest more in sales outside the country.

Autumn

Is impossible to remain indifferent to the wonderful colors of autumn, although in Portugal the summer insisting on staying a while longer. this is the season of oranges and browns, reds and yellows. In the studio I paint a bit of the autumn in my new pieces.

In recent times the word relevance has become very relevant for those who sell on Etsy.
Suddenly there was a change, and like all change, fear and insecurity knocked at the door of so many stores.
after spending several nights to read posts and comments in forums and blogs I ended up finding myself watching my whole journey since I opened the shop azulado.
When looking at my shop today, and remind me of the first images and pieces the change is abysmal.
one of the things I like about etsy is that to learn, the vast articles available on everything that involves the design, marketing and selling.
Learning this can be applied in various directions according to what is intended a business.
for me it is all about, do better, make mistakes and learn from mistakes, not being afraid to take risks and give everything you can. do everything with love and dedication.
I sell my work on etsy and design stores in Portugal.
What began as a dream has now become part of reality.

And this dream is only possible because I dedicate myself to it with all the energy, passion and dedication that is possible.
Every day there is an obstacle to overcome, a goal to achieve and the projects will slowly taking shape.
You can not achieve anything without hard work and dedication. It is not enough to make some pieces shooting them and be waiting for something to happen.
You have to learn, investigate, research, disseminate and foremost confront the fears and insecurities.
you can not do for fear of failure. only with the mistakes you learn a lot. And when things do not work in a way, there's always another way to test.

Upon hearing the concerns of so many shops in the face of the new search system etsy.I can only say that the secret is surely not to invest efforts questioning why the change.
if you ask me what is the form of tags and titles to the pieces, what is the magic algorithm that makes it all happen .... I do not have the slightest idea:)
But I think it's like everything in life, try, try out, analyze, and above all continue to work to create, to do what you can do better.

I discovered on Etsy wonderful creators. I found some great people, wonderful teams.
The human, and supportive partner make this site something special.

I always worked with restoration of old tiles.

Over the years, I've lost the count of how many tiles I painted.

So I put to the fabric some paintings I had done.

And these magnets were born.

Sending orders securely in paper envelopes

Last year, I bought a lot of handmade paper.

I have used this paper to do some packing, but meantime I thought of making envelopes.
I spent the whole week to structure the idea and in the studio today I did the first envelopes.

The original idea comes from the need to shipped a piece, and it has all the security possible while being beautifully packaged.

So what I did was use the paper made by hand from outside with a liner, also in paper, from within, and between the two, I put foam filling (dracalon is the name in Portuguese:)).

I got the sewing machine and ... here are the envelopes.

Handmade, a lifestyle choice

What's marvelous, behind handmade, is above all the history of each piece. What exist behind it.
When I buy something made by hand, I'm just not to buy something I need but I am acquiring a carefully crafted piece.
This simple gesture carries an immense positive energy, and I want that energy around me.

Sometimes work on your own can be very scary. There are so many fears and so many obstacles. have the ability to confront these fears and risk is not always easy.
But there is nothing better than being able to do what you love most. In my case I love create, I do not stop, there is always a new idea I want to try it, and in this new idea,another is born, and so on.
and sometimes when life outside the studio, give me hard times, is in my studio with my creations that my mind flies, and I freed from the negative and sad situations.
does not exist for me in the world, money to pay, the joy of creating.

I'm a moment of these, life out there, do not run the best way, but in the studio, the creations fly, and I'm completely in love with buttons.

Time goes faster

Without realizing it, have passed many days without appearing around here.
This time of year is always of hard work.
Orders for the new season, make stock for the local shops.
And the new collection appearing slowly.

The ceramic has these things:) needs time!
First the clay, creating, forming, drying and finally fired it. After painting, testing color,paint, dry and fired again.

It is slow but exciting.

Sometimes I compare myself to A child on Christmas Eve :) how many are the mornings that I, still in pajamas, run to the studio to see how was the firing, and how became the pieces (another advantage to living on a farm and no neighbors close by:))

It is always awonderful surprise!

A sunny day

And finally, it arrived one weekend, who reconciled, a beautiful day with the absence of colds around here:)

A day like this is enough to recharge the energy. Nothing like feeling the sea breeze andwarm sunshine, to forget the cold winter days that are coming to the end.

This beach is called Arrabida, is a natural reserve and is 15 minutes away from myhouse.
